European Biomethane Final Fuel Conference attracted 240 participants representing 25 different nationalities. The conference was held at Storan, the original theater/opera house in Göteborg. For three days invited speakers discussed with the participating delegates the advantages of biomethane as vehicle fuel and ways to increase the general awareness and create incentives on an EU-level. During the second and third day four different training sessions were held highlighting issues regarding biogas- production, infrastructure, up-grading and end-use. Three different study tours showing up-grading facilities and waste water treatment plants etc around the region were arranged in co-operation with Ecoex — West Swedish Environmental Export.

New strategy for biogas

The Swedish government has decided to develop a new strategy to increase the use of Biogas, the assignment will be executed by the Swedish Energy Agency.

Biogas will play an important role in reducing the climate impact from the transport industry.  As the fuel is produced locally it opens up for sustainable growth, where biogas can generate new job opportunities. The Swedish Energy Agency together with the Swedish Board of Agriculture and the Swedish EPA are going to develop a cross-sectional long term strategy and advice on actions to increase the usage of biogas in short and long term

The proposals will structure the common platform for the future development within biogas
production, distribution and use of biogas in Sweden.

The assignment will be presented to the Government Offices of Sweden no later then 12th May 2010.
