The biomedical industry is one of the fastest growing and most important sectors in the Göteborg region. Within biomedicine the Göteborg region is world leader in two areas:
  • Biomaterial/Cell Therapy and
  • Cardiovascular/Metabolic science

The region is at the forefront of current research and the related industries have demonstrated an ability to develop world-class products, as proven by blockbuster drugs Losec/Prilosec and Seloken.

The region has well-established collaboration between industry, academia and the health care sector, as well as good access to a highly educated workforce. Further, Göteborg has the largest hospital in northern Europe, Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
GöteborgBIO aims to support the growth and development of the biomedical sector and to increase the level of commercialisation of medical innovations. Further, we work to attract foreign investment and seed capital to the region.
